STATEMENT OF NEED
Schizophrenia is a debilitating mental illness characterized by psychotic symptoms and disruptions in thought processes, perceptions, emotional responsiveness, and social interactions. Individuals with schizophrenia have an estimated life expectancy 15 to 20 years less than that of the general population (National Institute of Mental Health, 2024; Kantrowitz et al, 2023). The shortcomings of available dopamine blocking agents to treat schizophrenia and ongoing efforts to optimize therapy will be discussed in Module 1 of this podcast, led by Dr. Christoph U. Correll, Professor of Psychiatry and Molecular Medicine at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Charité – University Medicine in Berlin, Germany.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychiatric physician assistants/associates, psychiatric mental health nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to
- Appraise the indications, efficacy, and safety of current and emerging antipsychotics for the treatment of schizophrenia

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 0.75 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Physician Assistants/Associates
i3 Health has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 0.75 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until 2/17/26. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.
Nurse Practitioners
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME. Individuals are responsible for checking with the AANPCP for further guidelines.
Nursing Continuing Professional Development
A maximum of 0.75 ANCC contact hours may be earned by learners who successfully complete this nursing continuing professional development activity. This activity has been designated for 0.75 ANCC contact hours of pharmacotherapy credit for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.

Continuing Pharmacy Education
